COVID News

Entry Dated Mar 11th 20201

While we have ceased playing activities pending Baypoint starting up their club, we are happy to support a return to outdoor play at Broadstairs Rec from March 29th along the lines that we did last year.

We propose to set up a WhatsApp group called MemRec (or something a bit more catchy), invite all of the current TPC WhatsApp members to join it and use the new one to schedule sessions. Andrew will own the group and carry out initial invitations.

We will initially attempt to mirror our old Club indoor sessions by aiming for Sunday 10-12, and Wednesday 4-6. Weather dependent of course. We will make a few nets and outdoor balls available, but it will be as well to coordinate among ourselves to ensure that we have enough kit for each session.

Anyone is free to use the WhatsApp group to arrange other sessions, arrive early, start late etc. You do not need to have a relationship with TPC to be put on the group or to come along and play.

The only Covid concern that we specifically need to address is that of the 'rule of six' - i.e. maximum of six players on a court and nobody to play on another court with anybody outside of that six. Hopefully, we have the organisational ability to manage this.

So, first session on Wednesday, March 31st. Feel free to arrange for something earlier if the weather is looking good (as long as its 29th or later). I'm keen to play and show off my new paddle and expanded stomach.

Entry Dated Jan 11th 20201

We are not playing organised sessions at Baypoint in line with Government instructions.  Our last session was on Wednesday, Nov 4th and we hope to resume in January 2021.

We are guided by advice from Pickleball England

Up till November 4th, we had been holding our Wednesday and Sunday sessions under socially-distance guidelines at Baypoint.  We accomplished this by assigning a maximum of six players (bubble) to a court and they rotated play between themselves for the duration of the evening.  Players did not warm-up or play outside of their assigned bubble. We resumed play at Baypoint, as a Club, on Wednesday, September 2nd. Baypoint operated a system of logged entry, one-way system, temperature reading upon entry etc.

Prior to that, ad-hoc games were arranged, not under Club auspices either outdoors at Broadstairs Rec or indoors at Baypoint. These were played under the Covid guidelines in existence at the time - e.g. each player used the same ball, no physical contact, frequent sanitisation etc.
